Glossary
Some terms explained:
CMS
- Content Management System
Content Management System
- a software system enabling management of web site content by the site owner with little or no technical knowledge of how web sites are built using HTML, CSS and Web programming
Template
- this term has different meanings depending on the context. Design Agencies will often use this in a derogatory manner, indicating "off-the-shelf" designs, rather than bespoke customer-specific designwork. In the world of website building however, particularly with a CMS, templates are essential to separate content editing from page presentation. In this context, a template is a 'proforma' design and page layout 'container', with placeholders for sections of content (text and graphics) to be acquired from the CMS.
